The Circle Maker Heresy

It’s so easy to be deceived these days.  I believe more people need to be discerning before they jump on board the next best greatest thing when it comes to religion.  It’s become a major industry within the so-called Christian religion for pastors to write book after book on how to live a better life, how to get rich fast, etc, etc.  Whatever happened to people just reading the Bible and looking only to it for the truth on how they should live their lives or better yet, how to be saved? I guess it’s not as appealing to the apostate church, and they’d rather read something that “tickles the ears” rather than something that makes them squirm under conviction.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against Christians writing books.  I just think that some have taken it too far and made the gospel more about them than about Jesus.  I look at these mega church pastors (and even some of the smaller ones) and there’s little if any humbleness about them.  They don’t build their churches to bring people to Christ.  They build their church to bring money to their pockets and prestige to their name.

I think back to Paul, Peter, James, John and the other church fathers.  Did they have huge church buildings and book contracts? No, they did not. They met in homes and on riverbanks.  They were persecuted, tortured and killed for their beliefs. They did write books, but the books they wrote were inspired by the Holy Spirit.  They told the gospel of Jesus Christ.  They were encouraging letters to the church.  They were stern admonishments to their flocks when they strayed from the Way.  And they revealed the glorious coming of Jesus Christ.

I’m not lumping all pastors in the same group because I know there are good ones out there with hearts for God and the church. But the ones who are leading so many undiscerning, deceived people astray today would have no place in the church of Peter, James, John or Paul.

That said, there’s another wolf in sheep’s clothing bringing witchcraft into the church with his magic circles.  Read the post linked below.  The author quite plainly lays out his case against Mark Batterson’s The Circle Maker using the Word of God, The Bible, as his measuring stick.
