Yom Teruah – The Day No Man Knows

“Yom Teruah, the Day of Trumpets. Idiomatically known as, “The Day No Man Knows!” It is the one “Feast” that occurs on the new moon which has to be sighted before the day is proclaimed, hence, “No man knows the day.” I believe the picture presented in this Feast is the blowing of trumpets to call the WHOLE assembly of God together as one, which I believe, precedes the coming of Messiah.” (from Ken Rank)

Matthew 24:36-44  36)But of that DAY and HOUR knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.  37)But as the days of Noah were, so also shall the coming of the Son of man be.  38)For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,  39)And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  40)Then shall two be in the field: the one shall be taken, and other left.  41)Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.  42)WATCH therefore: for ye know not what HOUR your Lord doth come.  43)But know this, that IF the goodman of the house HAD KNOWN in what WATCH the thief would come, he would have WATCHED, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.  44)Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an HOUR as ye think not the Son of man cometh. (emphasis mine)

Can we know the DAY or the HOUR of Christ’s return?  Not according to Jesus.  However, he doesn’t say that we can’t know the year, season, or even month.   What he does say is “WATCH therefore: for you do not not what HOUR your Lord comes, but KNOW THIS: THAT IF the goodman of the house HAD KNOWN IN WHAT WATCH the thief would come, he would have WATCHED….” So according to scripture,  if the goodman of the house had know in what WATCH the thief would come he would have been ready.  We can know the WATCH when the Lord will return.  We may not know the exact day or hour, but we can certainly know the year, the season, and I believe, even the month.  I believe that the Word of God gives us the clues to his return.  Why else would he tells us to WATCH?
